The District Police Authority Department exists to provide quality service derived from our community's expectations and our dedication to excellence. The officers apply specialized knowledge and skills to respond caringly to our community's security and safety needs.
We also offer several crime prevention programs to keep students, staff, and faculty safe. These services are free of charge.
Services
We operate a computerized intrusion and fire alarm system to monitor facilities throughout the campuses to enhance personal and building security.
The District Police Authority Department strongly recommends that everyone operating a vehicle at WCCCD have it registered. Registration is free and valid for all campuses. Vehicle registration is available at all Campus Safety Offices.
Free brochures and other documents regarding crime prevention are available at the District Police Authority Desks and other campus locations.
Vehicle patrols are maintained at all campuses to prevent thefts and other crimes.
The Department provides assistance for jump starting a vehicle and unlocking vehicles with the keys left inside the car.
The Department offers safety escorts to individuals who request safety assistance as they walk to and from on-campus locations. The safety escort service is provided by trained Officers and Student Safety Corps.
The District Police Authority Department operates a lost and found service for each campus throughout the District.
We operate the student identification card system on each campus.
A District Police Authority Council Committee has the responsibility to study and to make recommendations on improving campus safety. Safety suggestions should be submitted in writing and turned in to your campus officer.
We will soon implement an access security system throughout the District.
The Wayne County Community College District Police Department provides a full range of professional police services to the campuses throughout the District as well as the surrounding neighborhoods. All WCCCD Police Officers are fully licensed through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). All officers are sworn Peace Officers commissioned under State law. Officers are empowered to enforce all federal and state laws as well as the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code and local city Ordinances, both on and off the campus. As sworn police officers are authorized to investigate, arrest or take any other necessary action to address any criminal or other public infraction in the vicinity of the WCCCD campuses. WCCCD Police Officers work very closely with the Detroit Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, Taylor Police Department, Harper Woods Police Department and the Van Buren Township Department of Public Safety.
The Police Advisory Committee provides a forum for the discussion of law enforcement effectiveness in the college community, recommends law enforcement improvements, and provides advice to the police chief on various law enforcement initiatives.
We provide a manual and training for the District community to respond to emergencies to successfully minimize injuries and property damage.
