The Michigan Reconnect Scholarship
For a limited time only, those 21 to 24 are now eligible for Michigan Reconnect! Earn your degree or certificate tuition-free at Wayne County Community College District. Time to apply is limited, but your future doesn’t have to be. Say hello to making more money, landing a better job, and pursuing your passion.
To be eligible, you must:
- Be at least 21 years of age and not more than 24 years of age.
- Apply and enroll no later than the fall semester of 2024.
- Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- Have lived in Michigan for at least a year.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent or certificate of completion.
- Have not yet completed a college degree.

Program & Career Path Focused Scholarships
This is a two-semester scholarship for students who have completed 12 credit hours at WCCCD. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in classes for the Fall semester of the year in which the scholarship is awarded
- A cumulative 2.8 grade point average and be working towards an Associate of Arts degree
- A Detroit zip code
- Submit a 300-500-word personal essay introducing themselves, their area of concentration, and future goals
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
The scholarship recipient must maintain a 2.8 grade point average to receive the second installment of this award. Value: $3,000 ($1,500 per semester)
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Registered for 6-8 credits
- A signed Business Administration program application on file with the Business Department Head prior to the awarding of this scholarship
- Completed a minimum of 15 credit hours at WCCCD which includes the following courses: ACC 110, BUS 150 and BUS 225. These courses must have been completed with a grade of “C” or better with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or better
- Letters of recommendation from at least two Business faculty members are required;
- 1-2 page personal statement that demonstrates the applicant’s academic achievement, leadership, and work experience
Value: $750 (one semester only)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA or better based upon a minimum of 12-credit hours previously taken at WCCCD
- Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
- The scholarship recipient must maintain the required 3.0 GPA in the first semester to receive this award's second installment
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
This is an award exclusively for students in the Dental Assisting Program. To be eligible to apply, the applicant must be officially admitted into the one-year certificate program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A cumulative high school or college grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better
- Demonstrated financial need
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Interviews and awards will be made after admission into the program.
Value: $750 (one semester only)
This scholarship is exclusively for students in the Dental Hygiene Program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Officially admitted to the Dental Hygiene Program at WCCCD
- A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0)
- He/she must be a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours) with a demonstrated history of leadership and community service, which must be documented in writing by the recipient agency
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Interviews and awards will be made after admission into the program
Value: $1,000 (one semester only)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA based upon a minimum of 6 to 9 credit hours previously taken at WCCCD (In the event applicant is a first time attendee, no GPA will be required.)
- Must be enrolled in a skilled trades program
- Submit a written statement of need
- Submit a 300-500 word essay describing their intended career goals and plans
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Value: $1,000.00 ($500.00 per semester)
This two-semester scholarship is based on academic merit and is available to full-time and part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA), which he/she has maintained for two consecutive semesters prior to the awarding of this scholarship
- Working towards an Associate of Arts degree and being able to demonstrate participation in community services
- The student must submit an essay pertaining to their area of academic concentration;
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee; Students receiving financial aid are not eligible for this scholarship award
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full-time or part-time students who have completed 20 credit hours at WCCCD with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have taken at least one Biology Course and passed with a grade of a “B” or better;
- A letter of reference from a member of the Biology faculty is required
- Registered for a Biology course in the semester he/she receives this scholarship;
- Write and submit an essay on their future plans
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee. The scholarship recipient must maintain a 3.5 GPA in the fall semester in order to receive the second-semester installment of this award
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
This is a one-semester scholarship.
- Available to either full or part-time students who have been officially admitted to the Surgical Technology Program with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0
- Applicants who have demonstrated financial need will be given special consideration
Value: $1,000 for one semester based on part-time or full-time status
This is a two-semester scholarship for students in the Nursing Program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Completed 45 hours of coursework at WCCCD
- Good attendance in all class (lecture/clinical)
- A combination of high academic standards and good moral character
- He/she should not have any failures throughout the program
- A record of participation in community service and/or student organizations
Value: $1,500 ($750 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students.
- Funds are to be used for books, course materials as well as tuition and fees
- The funds would be available for all courses and trade programs and not solely limited to certificate acquisitions. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA or better, must be U.S. Citizens
- A permanent resident of Wayne County
- Preference will be given to men or women studying for the teaching profession
- Submit written documentation of need
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee; Preference will be given for the advancement of men in the teaching profession
Value: $5,000 ($2,500 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA or better based upon a minimum of 12-credit hours previously taken at WCCCD or recent high school graduate
- Currently enrolled in either of the Fire Protection Programs or the EMT Program
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee; The scholarship recipient must maintain the required 2.5 GPA in the first semester in order to receive the second installment of this award
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
Need & Merit-Based Scholarships
This is a two-semester scholarship for full-time or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Admitted to an associate degree program or one-year certificate program at the time of award
- A cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.5 or better
- Demonstrate financial need
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possess and maintain a minimal cumulative 3.0 GPA and must have completed at least one semester;
- Been actively involved in TRIO activities;
- Submit a 500 word essay pertaining to their commitment and vision to obtain a master’s degree, with projected goal timeline, beyond WCCCD graduation;
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee;
- The scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimal cumulative 3.0 GPA in the first semester in order to receive the second installment of this award.
Value: $1,000 ($500 per semester)
This is a one-semester scholarship for students that are recent high school graduates with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better.
- Applicants may have either a high school diploma or equivalent. He/she must enroll at WCCCD for a minimum of 12 credit hours in the fall of the academic year in which the scholarship is awarded.
- The student must submit a written statement of need and his/her educational goals.
Value: $1,500 (one semester only)
This is a one-semester award for part-time or full-time students attending WCCCD who although employed, do not receive tuition assistance from their employers and, because of their employment, are not eligible for federal financial aid. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 based on a minimum of 12 credit hours previously taken at WCCCD
- Must be single, living independently and may not have dependents
- Provide documentation that he/she is not eligible for federal financial aid and must submit a written statement of need which includes biographical information and information about their educational goals
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Value: $1,500 (one semester only)
Student Group Scholarships
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students, preferably female. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA or better based upon a minimum of 12-credit hours previously taken at WCCCD
- A graduate from a school in the Detroit Public School system or live within the city of Detroit;
- Submit written documentation of need
- Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
The scholarship recipient must maintain the required 2.5 GPA in the first semester to receive this award's second installment.
Value: $2,000 ($1,000 per semester)
This is a one-semester scholarship for full-time or part-time students who have completed 12 credit hours at WCCCD. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A United States citizen
- Resident of the downriver area; (which is made up of the 19 communities south of Detroit: Allen Park, Brownstown, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, New Boston, River Rouge, Riverview, Romulus, Rockwood, Huron Township, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, Woodhaven and Wyandotte)
- Submit an essay (a minimum of 250 but not exceeding 500 words) to include introduction of self, understanding of the AAUW mission and principles (http://www.aauw.org/about/), and why you have a great chance at success in your educational goal and leadership in your future career – include any items you feel have steered you toward this goal
Available for an interview with the WCCCD Scholarship Committee
Value: $1,250 (fall semester only)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Detroit resident (show proof of residency)
- Have at least a 2.8 GPA at the time of application and have completed at least 12 credit hours at the time of application
- Be at least 23 years of age
- Be enrolled in an Associate Degree Program (AA, AS, AAS). Preference given to students interested in pursuing a career in education
- Preference will be given to applicants with children (birth or legal dependents) in the home
- Submit a 300-500 word essay describing their personal educational journey and how it has impacted their future educational goals
- Scholarship recipient must maintain the required 2.5 GPA in the first semester in order to receive the second installment of this award
- No requirements for financial need.
Value: $2,000 ($1000 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship for full or part-time students. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a 2.5 GPA or better based upon a minimum of 12 credit hours previously taken at WCCCD
- Preferably, the award should be made to single African-American female heads of households based upon need
- Preferably, residing in the Mary Ellen Stempfle University Center region, but eligible applicants may be District-wide
- Submit written documentation of need

The scholarship recipient must maintain the required 2.5 GPA in the first semester to receive this award's second installment.
Value: $2,500 ($1,250 per semester)
This is a two-semester scholarship based on need and is available to full-time or part-time students. Applicants must be 18 years of age and meet the following criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have documentation of financial need;
- Currently enrolled with a 2.5 GPA or better;
- Preference will be given to women in transition (those in the workforce and/or returning for educational retraining; and those individuals with children living in the home);
- Must reside in the greater metropolitan Detroit region;
- Submit a 300-500 word essay clearly defining career goals and objectives.
Value: $3,000 ($1,500 per semester)
This is a (one semester or two-semester) scholarship for full or part-time students who are recent high school graduates or currently enrolled WCCCD students:
- Student must reside in one of the following communities within Taylor, Michigan: The Ponds, Parks, Courtyards or Springs
- This scholarship may be based upon need or merit
- If need-based, applicants must submit written documentation of need
- The scholarship recipient must maintain a 2.5 grade point average during first semester of award.
Value: $1,665 ($832.50 per semester)
