What’s the Job Outlook for Digital Photography Technology?

Photographers use their technical expertise, creativity, and composition skills to produce and preserve images that visually tell a story or record an event. They analyze and decide how to compose their subjects using various photographic techniques and equipment. Photographers typically market and advertise services to attract clients.

Employment of photographers is projected to decline by 6 percent from 2018 to 2028, slower than the average for all occupations. Salaried jobs, in particular, may be more difficult to find as companies and agencies may hire freelancers rather than hire their photographers. Job prospects will be best for multi-talented candidates with related skills such as picture editing and digital video capture. There is a demand for individuals that have the skills and talents as a photographer or a computer-based digital imaging specialist.
