Patient Care Technology

The medical field has a strong demand for those who are skilled in patient care technology. The Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) patient care technology faculty exposes students to necessary training required to work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and clinics.

The program provides students with in-depth instruction in the field of Patient Care Technology (PCT). This program will prepare students for employment in the expanding area of patient care.

A Short-Term Certificate in the Patient Care Technology Program from WCCCD prepares you for work as a Patient Care Technician in various settings such as:

  • Home Health Care Organizations
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing Care Facilities
  • Residential Care Facilities

What’s the Job Outlook for Patient Care Technology?

Patient Care Technicians (PCT), (similar to nursing assistants), help provide basic care for patients in hospitals and residents of long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes. In nursing homes, PCTs are often the principal caregivers. They have more contact with residents than other members of the staff. Because some residents stay in a nursing home for months or years, PCTs may develop close relationships with their patients.

Employment of similar occupations such as (nursing assistants) is projected to grow 9 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations.
