F4F and Reconnect Programs
Futures for Frontliners (F4F)
F4F is a State of Michigan scholarship for frontline workers who worked in essential industries during the state COVID-19 shutdown in the spring of 2020. F4F provides a pathway for tuition-free access to public community colleges to earn an associate degree or an industry-recognized certificate.
- Must file the FAFSA for the academic year in which a student will be enrolled, and the verification process must be completed for those required
- Must enroll at least half-time in courses that count toward the student’s program of study
- Must have begun usage of F4F by enrolling in 6 or more credits within the spring, summer, or fall semester of 2021
- Must have submitted a F4F application by December 31, 2020
- Must enroll in at least two out of three semesters during each 12-month period (begins at the start of a student’s first semester as an F4F participant in which they are enrolled in at least six credits)
- Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average while being an F4F participant
- Must not be in default on a Federal student loan or Title IV overpayment
Reconnect
Michigan Reconnect is a scholarship program that pays in-district tuition and fees for students 25 and older to attend community college. Students can use the scholarship to earn an associate degree or an industry-recognized certificate.
- Must file the FAFSA for the academic year in which a student will be enrolled, and the verification process must be completed for those required
- Must enroll at least half-time in courses that count toward your program of study
- Must enroll in at least two out of three semesters during each 12-month period (begins at the start of a student’s first semester as a Reconnect participant in which they are enrolled in at least six credits)
- Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average while being a Reconnect participant
F4F/Reconnect and Pell Grant
If a student is Pell eligible, the F4F/Reconnect scholarship will equal the difference between in-district tuition and mandatory fees and any Pell Grant. If a student’s Pell Grant covers all the in-district tuition and mandatory fees, F4F/Reconnect will not be awarded. In this case, a student’s enrollment is still reported to the state to satisfy the continuous enrollment requirement. Please note: other tuition-restricted funds may also affect the F4F/Reconnect scholarship award.
F4F/Reconnect Withdrawals
- For an F4F/Reconnect participant’s first 12-month period, the scholarship will cover the tuition cost of courses the student withdraws from after a college’s “add/drop” period.
- For the first semester of an F4F/Reconnect participant’s second 12-month period, the college will cover the cost of any withdrawn courses after the “add/drop” period, meaning neither the State nor the student can be charged.
- From the second semester of an F4F/Reconnect participant’s second 12-month period and on, all withdrawn course costs after the “add/drop” period are to be covered by the student and may result in a balance owed to CWD.
F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence
Students participating in F4F/Reconnect for at least one semester who cannot maintain continuous enrollment due to hardship may continue to utilize their scholarship for the duration of their four-year program time limit without loss of eligibility. This allowance is called the F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence.
PLEASE NOTE: All students re-admitted to the District after missing two years will be responsible for the curricula and regulations published in the current Catalog and other official publications that are in effect at the time of their re-admission. In certain cases, dates of program admission make take precedence over dates of college admission for the purpose of meeting program requirements for graduation.
Process:
- Students participating in F4F/Reconnect for at least one semester and are experiencing hardship may obtain an F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence form from the Financial Aid page of the WCCCD website. https://dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com/Submit/Start/ee11538d-953e-49af-8f8a-ab33b35a435d
- To avoid being charged for the term, an F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence form should be completed by the 100% drop date of the current semester.
- Leave of Absence requests received after the 100% drop date of the semester may result in the student being financially responsible for that semester’s tuition and fees. Additionally, the leave will take effect the following semester.
- Once a Leave of Absence form has been approved, the appropriate school administrator will update the student’s account on MISSG within 7-10 business days.
- Students that submit an F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence will receive notification of the status of their request through their WCCCD email that the Leave of Absence has been processed and their account has been updated in MISSG
- Students with an approved F4F/Reconnect Leave of Absence that decide to end their leave early, must notify District Financial Aid by email at financialaid@wcccd.edu
