Mechatronics Technology

The Mechatronics program is designed to prepare technicians through cross-training to work in the diverse fields of mechanical, electrical, and industrial automation. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, 1-year certificate, and short-term certificate in mechatronics from WCCCD prepare you for work in the following industries:

  • Food Processing
  • Pulp and Paper Metals Manufacturing
  • Automated Warehousing Manufacturing

What’s the Job Outlook for Electro-mechanical Technicians?

Employment of electro-mechanical technicians is projected to show little or no change from 2018 to 2028. Electro-mechanical technicians are generalists in technology, and their broad skill set will help sustain demand for their services. Job prospects are likely to be best for electromechanical technicians who train in a field known as mechatronics, which provides an understanding of four key systems: Mechanical systems, Electronic systems, Control systems, and Computer systems.

What’s Required to Complete the Mechatronics Technology Program?

An AAS in mechatronics technology from WCCCD requires 63 total credits.

As a mechatronics technology student at WCCCD, you’ll take both general education courses and courses required for a mechatronics technology major.

Some students plan to transfer to a four-year college or university after earning their AAS. If that’s your goal, you might choose specific courses. Talk with your advisor about a personalized plan that meets your goals.

How Long Does it Take to Earn a Mechatronics Technology Degree?

Most mechatronic technology students take five semesters (2.5 years) to complete AAS degree prerequisites and required courses.

What Will I Learn as a Mechatronics Technology Student?

WCCCD mechatronics technology students learn the knowledge of mechanical technology and electrical and electronic circuits. You will be prepared for the evolving manufacturing industry and trained to manufacture a product or perform a task with minimal human intervention through automation.
