Graduates of the phlebotomy program provide graduates with the competence in multiple skills of specimen collection, have a strong medical terminology background and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

What’s the Job Outlook for Phlebotomists?

Employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations. Hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and other locations will need phlebotomists to perform blood work.

What’s Required to Complete the Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program?

A certificate in the Phlebotomy Technician Program from WCCCD requires 22 credits to complete. 

As a Phlebotomy Technician student at WCCCD, you will take introductory medical courses and science courses for your program.

Some students plan to transfer to a four-year college or university after earning their degree. If that’s your goal, you might choose specific courses. Talk with your advisor about a personalized plan that meets your goals. 

How Long Does it Take to Earn a Phlebotomy Technician Certificate?

Most Phlebotomy Technician students take 2 semesters (1 year) to complete certificate required courses. 

What Will I Learn as a Phlebotomy Technician Student?

A Phlebotomy Technician student will learn the chief responsibilities of the phlebotomists which include drawing blood and conducting other specimen collections.

The WCCCD’s Phlebotomy Technician Program is offered at our Northwest Campus. The NW campus also offers classes for other medical care-related certificates and degrees.
