How to Apply for Financial Aid
Attending college can be expensive, but with the help of financial aid, it does not have to be.
It is part of Wayne County Community College District's mission to make college affordable and accessible to everyone.
Applying for Financial Aid
Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step to getting financial aid. Apply today.
If you are a dependent student, your parent or guardian must also provide information and sign.
Filling Out Your FAFSA
The FAFSA is available online as early as October 1st.
- To complete the form to apply for aid at the District, follow these steps: Complete all sections about yourself, your school plans, and your financial information.
- Indicate WCCCD using our school code: 009230.
- Provide your electronic signature (PIN). You must set up your PIN during the FAFSA application process. If you are a dependent student, remember to include your parent's PIN, or your FAFSA will be rejected.
- Submit your information.
- Print out and keep a copy of the information you have submitted for your records.
What Happens Next
After filling out your FAFSA you will receive two things:
- The U.S. Department of Education will email you a Student Aid Report (SAR). Read your SAR thoroughly, check it for accuracy, and follow up on any requests for additional information.
Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is calculated from the information you provided on the FAFSA and is listed on your SAR. The EFC is the amount your family is expected to contribute to your education for the upcoming year. If you have special circumstances, you may notify the District Financial Aid Office by completing the Special Circumstance Form.
- If your FAFSA is selected by the U.S. Department of Education for a process called verification, you will need to submit additional information to WCCCD. Check WEB GATE and WCCCD Student Forms (hyperlink wcccd.verifymyfafsa.com) for your financial aid requirements and status. Be sure to check Web Gate, WCCCD Student Forms, and your email often for updates.
